Kids Fishtale Writing Contest Announced

Release Date: January 9, 2004
Attentions kids ages 6-17! The Minnesota Fishing Federation is hosting its 4th Annual Minnesota Outdoor Sports Show in Grand Rapids, Minnesota March 26-28, 2004. As part of that event they are running their annual KIDS FISHTALES writing contest with each youth receiving a prize and cash prizes going to the top three in each age group. Age groups are 6-12 and 13-17. Each child is asked to write their favorite fishing story not to exceed one page. They may include a photo or drawing to enhance the story. Stories will be judged and winners announced at 3 pm Sunday of the sports show. All stories ,photos and drawings will become the property of the fishing federation and may be used on their website which can be found by going to the Yahoo search engine and typing in MINNESOTA FISHING FEDERATION.

The Kayak Lady - Mary Shideler from Grand Rapids

The Kayak Lady has a passion to kayak each of the 1007 lakes in Itasca County.
Paddling a KIT kayak, she has visited 579.
Water clarity readings are done on each lake for the
Itasca County Soil and Water Office and the MN PCA.

Paulucci Planetarium Skylab

Paulucci Space Theatre's portable Starlab planetarium will again be a part
of the Minnesota Outdoor Sports Show held in Grand Rapids, Minnesota at the
Civic Center. It is 16 feet across at the base and fits about 30 students
at a time. Presentations include the current night sky, the Solar System,
the Hubble Telescope, and more; bringing the wonder of space and space
exploration to thousands of students and adults. The Starlab will hold
presentations each hour on the hour Friday, March 26 running from 1pm to
7pm and on Saturday March 27 running from 10 am to 5 pm.
